Ramen noodles are one of Japan’s most popular street foods, and they’re a far cry from the dried noodles you buy for a quarter at the grocery store. These are tremendous bowls of fresh, delicious noodles simmered in savory broth and coupled with a wide variety of extra ingredients. Tempe’s Republic Ramen + Noodles brings the Japanese noodle bar to Arizona in high style, with sizable bowls of great soup. It's all made from locally grown vegetables and fresh ingredients. Republic offers six different types of broth, from the milky tonkatsu (made from pork) to the clear and refreshing shio (sea salt). Regulars love the house broth, which uses soy sauce and spicy peppers to give the bowl a kick. Each bowl comes with a choice of protein, from traditional ingredients like beef, tofu, and chicken to Spam for the adventurous. The menu has several other dishes, too, like Japanese curry over rice and fried dumplings known as gyoza.

This Arizona-based breakfast chain has earned a reputation as one of the best ways to start your day in the state. Hordes of eager eaters flock to its tables every morning. As you might guess, the menu revolves around eggs cooked in dozens of different ways, all spectacular. Omelettes are great – regulars recommend the Going South with chorizo, green chiles, and onions topped with salsa and Jack cheese. You can also create your own from a wide selection of ingredients. Eggs Benedict is also an excellent choice, with the California-style (add bacon, avocado, and tomatoes) quite popular. One of the most popular offerings at U.S. Egg are the protein pancakes, which takes the traditional sweet breakfast treat and pumps it up with blueberries, granola, cinnamon, and slivered almonds to make a more nutritionally complete meal. U.S. Egg serves lunch as well, but the lunch menu is much less enticing than breakfast!
