Mark-Taylor Residential shared the spotlight with some of Arizona’s most prestigious companies, and is a recipient of the Most Admired Companies award. Mark-Taylor was selected amongst hundreds of applicants for its commitment to customer and community service, leadership excellence and workplace culture. An event ceremony held Sept. 7 at the Arizona Biltmore attracted leading edge companies such as the Arizona Diamondbacks,  Banner Health,  GoDaddy.com and Shutterfly. The honor solidifies Mark-Taylor’s ultimate commitment to its residents…it’s all about taking great care of residents and the rest will follow.  So what was it that impresssed the judges? Here are some excerpts from our application, which showcase what we’re all about:

  • Professionalism: We look fresh and polished every day, and consistent from one community to the next. Our communities are cared for down to the last detail, with immaculate common areas and amenities. You’ll even find our branded “M” stamped into our sand urns. It’s details like these that show residents we care about them and their surroundings.

  • When Mark-Taylor is asked to take over management of a community, dozens of employees will pitch in on the day we are handed the keys. We “Make it Mark-Taylor”, an internal rally cry which consists of making immediate and noticeable improvements inside and out. Our passion is felt immediately when residents realize Mark-Taylor is there to care for them and their apartment homes.

  • Being accountable helps us grow and learn, and one illustration of this is what we call “Mark-Taylor mud puddles.” When someone makes a mistake, it’s his or her responsibility to own it, learn from it, and share it publicly to prevent others from repeating the mistake. Not only does this practice help us work smarter, it removes fear and insecurities that can lead to negative behaviors.

  • Mark-Taylor was also selected for the highest volunteer honor in Arizona, as the 2010 recipient of the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award, given for our involvement in helping homeless families. The program, led by Gov. Jan Brewer recognizes groups and individuals which contribute their time and talents to help their communities. Mark-Taylor’s partnership with Save the Family includes apartment donations, rent free for one year to families in need. Our efforts were featured by Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okpkjtKuzl8

  • Great leaders are born and raised throughout Mark-Taylor, as we are committed to promoting from within. Many of our managers were once leasing consultants, and most members of our executive team were once property managers. Even our president, who has been with the company 14 years once served as an asset manager. This commitment to continuing education through Mark-Taylor University helps employees understand they have a clear and rewarding career path, and we will support their efforts every step of the way.

  • Our president, Dale Phillips takes the phrase “leading by example” to heart. He is the visionary behind Mark-Taylor mud puddles, which encourages staff members to admit mistakes so others can avoid repeating them. He is creator of a culture that makes working hard and having fun top priorities. And he stands as the leader behind the company’s Save the Family initiative which generated a statewide service award, TV coverage on a monthly basis on KPNX Channel 12 in Phoenix and national recognition on Brian Williams’ “Making a Difference” segment on NBC Nightly News.
