What began as a small youth theater in 1995 on Granite Reef Road and McDonald Drive by husband-wife team of Gerry and Laruie Cultilly has since grown to one of Scottsdale’s premier performing arts centers! Today, Desert Stages Theater – which has existed on its Scottsdale Road location since 2004 – is a 136-seat venue that neatly rides the line between vastness and intimacy and hosts reproductions of some of Broadway’s most loved plays, like And Then There Were None, Oliver!, and Hairspray, as well as newer shows ranging in tone from the children’s musical Annie Jr. to the dark comedy The Pillowman – a show for which you will need to call the babysitter. Tickets are typically no more than $12, even for front-row seats. And Desert Theater also offers a range of activities like acting classes for adults and summer camps for children.
