Blue Bottle Cafe: Unassuming on the Outside, But with New American Culinary Treasures Within

Though nestled in the quaint and quiet surrounds of Hopewell, NJ, Blue Bottle Café has all the culinary credibility of a Manhattan eatery. Perhaps that’s why the small, 65-seat restaurant received a glowing review in The New York Times shortly after opening in 2006—thanks to which the establishment has enjoyed a constant flow of eager eaters ever since. Serving up classic American food with a sophisticated twist, chef/owner Aaron Philipson offers a well-rounded range of fresh dishes and unique flavors that draw from an international melting pot of influences. From mussels steamed in coconut green curry to arugula and Belgian endive with Serrano ham and blood oranges, there’s good reason to start with a sampling of small dishes before stuffing yourself with entrees like the highly-acclaimed homemade gnocchi with pork and beef Bolognese or tortilla crusted salmon. Oh, and don't forget a bottle of your favorite wine to pair with your meal at this charming BYOB.
