Love the adrenaline rush of seeing a great racecar? Then a visit to Simeone Automotive Museum is a must. Many people don’t know that the competitive urge took over almost as soon as the first cars hit the road. Displays of those first racecars include the 1909 American Underslung, one of the first to tear up the track in the U.S. Also on display from the early years of racing are a 1911 Mercer Raceabout, a 1916 Stutz Bearcat, and a 1929 Alfa Romeo. Corvettes, Ferraris, Aston Martins, and NASCAR racers are also among the many cars you can view at the museum. Open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Arden Theatre Company: Take The Stage

The City of Brotherly Love has no shortage of world-class theatrical companies, but few have won as much acclaim as the Arden Theatre. This Old City institution has been presenting exceptional dramatic and comedic works since 1988. Since then, they have racked up a truly impressive slate of awards, including 250 Barrymore Award nominations and 53 wins. In 1995, they purchased their current building, which they renovated to house two auditoriums. The 360-seat F. Otto Haas is the main stage, while the smaller Arcadia Stage is used for more intimate productions. Both have exceptional sightlines and excellent acoustics. The Arden presents a very diverse collection of works every year, including all-ages performances and new works commissioned especially for the group. The company also supports the Arden Drama School and the Arden For All program, which provides theatre tickets and books to underserved children. It’s well worth a visit, no matter what is on stage.

A Philly Guide to the Movies

If you live in Philadelphia or if you're visiting for the day, seeing a movie is an easy feat. With several movie theaters scattered all over the city, whether you want to see the latest indie film or the newest action-packed blockbuster, there are plenty of theaters to choose from.
Ritz Theaters
Landmark Theaters is recognized across the country as the largest chain of cinemas dedicated to screening and promoting independent and international film. Growing to more than 50 theaters across the country since its founding in 1976, the company consistently selects unique, compelling films that might otherwise be overlooked or neglected by larger movie theaters focused on box office hits. Landmark’s presence in Philadelphia grew out of its acquisition of the three-location Ritz Theater circuit. With generous matinee and weekend prices as well as a well-curated selection of art house, documentary, and foreign movies, the Ritz theaters are great places to get transported into a world you wouldn’t otherwise glimpse.

Pearl Theatre at Avenue North
The Pearl Theatre at Avenue North is a seven-screen movie theater located in a new retail and housing complex along Avenue North. Located at the Temple University campus, the theater caters to students and locals alike with a rotating selection of first run films. Though the building itself lacks any particularly distinct qualities, movie-goers can enjoy luxury high back recliner seats, cup holders for drinks or candy (popcorn is always better when held in your lap), and full digital surround sound in each of the auditoriums. None of the seven theaters holds more than 260 seats, so you can rest assured that you won’t get packed into a crowded theater with too many talkers.

The Bridge: Cinema de Lux
A state-of-the-art theater situated on the UPenn campus, The Bridge features more than just the latest movies, but a movie experience—blending technology and contemporary design. After purchasing tickets for the latest new release, patrons can visit the 12 Lounge for a full range of appetizers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and a complete service bar. Totally relaxed and with bellies full, movie-goers can grab a seat in one of the six climate-controlled theaters complete with wall-to-wall screens, Dolby DIGITAL EX Surround Sound®, and stadium seating featuring extra-wide Ultra Leather seats. Once you see a movie here, you may not be able to see one any other way.

Don’t let the title ‘museum’ scare off your youngsters! The Please Touch Museum is a far-cry from big, quiet halls where you have to keep your hands to yourself. In fact, as the name implies, Please Touch is a highly interactive educational experience. Parents will have fun guiding their children through the varied activities that encourage critical thinking and coordination. Future city planners can build their personal Utopia at City Capers, while future pilots earn their wings at Flight Fantasy. Explorers can tumble through and manipulate various features of Wonderland and Rainforest. For a dose of history, check out Centennial Exploration and Liberty Arm & Touch. Other activities include perusing the extensive contemporary and historical toy collections or seeing a play at the Playhouse Theater. The Please Touch Museum is open daily.
