Want a travel tip? Small towns can be just as interesting as large cities, and they're often more afforable destinations. Here are some of the country's top small-town travel destinations:

Capitola, California
A quiet little village just south of San Jose, Capitola has enticed people since its founding in the 1860s. With incredible surf and a distinctly Mediterranean feel, this cozy town is a great place to hang out at the beach and relax.

Astoria, Oregon
You'll find Astoria where the Columbia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Full of historical interest, including being the end of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Astoria also has a lively arts scene and all of the inviting quaintness that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Milford, Pennsylvania
Nestled nearby the incredibly scenic Delaware Water Gap, Milford is a short 71 miles away from New York City. This beautiful community has been a resort town for a long time, and now draws a lot of visitors for its beautiful Victorian homes.

Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Eureka Springs is a charming resort town full old homes and streets winding around the hilly terrain. Numerous little shops and galleries await visitors, as does a wonderfully fun community of eclectic residents.

Beaufort, North Carolina
A gorgeous town full of picturesque antebellum homes, Beaufort is a great place to kick back and soak up scenic Atlantic views. The pirate Blackbeard's ship ran aground here several hundred years ago, and the local maritime museum has numerous salvaged artifacts on display.

The Calle Ocho Festival, Miami, Florida
This vibrant festival takes places during the first two weeks of March. People flock to 8th Street in Miami and dance salsa, meringue, and rumba while speakers blast lively Caribbean music. Great food stalls and drink options abound. It’s one big street party. An added benefit is that there are special options for kids to have fun in a designated “Kid Zone” so they won’t be bored while you’re dancing up a storm.

Fiesta, San Antonio, Texas
This 17-day event in April is known as the biggest and most elaborate annual festival in the South Texas region. People come from all over the world to watch the fiesta’s three dazzling Parades – the River Parade, the Battle of Flowers Parade, and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade (the largest nighttime parade in North America). Another great aspect of the event is that funds raised from the parade provide services for those in need in the San Antonio area – so you’ll be having fun and giving back at the same time!

Dogwood Festival, Atlanta, Georgia
This wonderful event takes place between April 15 and 17. The festival is a celebration of arts and entertainment featuring live performances, a juried arts competition featuring hundreds of artists and craftspeople, and one of the biggest Frisbee events in the country. There’s also a zone just for kids packed with fun activities

Biltmore Estate Festival of Flowers, Asheville, North Carolina
A visit to the famous Biltmore Estate during the Festival of Flowers is a perfect way to usher in the warm weather. The festival features a dazzling array of brilliantly colorful blossoms. The people of Winchester decorate the area in pink, white, and green, colors chosen in honor of the region’s beautiful apple blossoms. Rise And Shine: Exceptional Egg Breakfasts

Eggs are the cornerstone of many a breakfast, but it’s easy to get tired of some of the standard preparations. If you’ve had one too many mornings start with scrambled eggs, here are five new ideas for interesting egg breakfasts.

  • Toad in a hole is a classic British preparation – use a jar or cookie cutter to punch a hole in the middle of a slice of bread, then fry it in a pan. Crack an egg in the middle and cook them all together for a delicious meal.
  • Bake eggs in small ceramic ramekins with sliced tomato and spinach. These dishes will come out like miniature quiches with much less preparation time.
  • Make a savory and delicious omelet with fresh mozzarella, basil, and slices of tomato. This Italian flavor combination is healthy and tasty.
  • For a different take on the omelet, fill a finished egg omelet with strawberries and sour cream. Eggs actually go really well with sweet flavors, and this unusual combination is a winner.
  • Make an egg sandwich on whole wheat bread or English muffins and top it with sharp cheddar cheese and slices of avocado. This is a delicious and portable breakfast if you’re in a hurry.

Who is Warren Buffett?

You've probably heard of Warren Buffett, the celebrated American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist who's consistently ranked among the world’s wealthiest people. Here are five fascinating facts about the “Oracle of Omaha” that you may not know:

1. He's a Regular Guy.
Despite his enormous wealth, Buffett still lives in the same three-bedroom house in Omaha, Nebraska, that he purchased after getting married over fifty years ago. He drives himself everywhere, never employing a private driver or security people.

2. He Keeps It Simple.
Buffett gives his CEOs only two rules. Number one: Do not lose any of your shareholders’ money. Number two: Don't forget rule number one.

3. He's Always Had Talent.
Warren Buffett’s gift for finance showed itself at a very early age. He bought his first share at age eleven (and later expressed regret that he hadn’t started even earlier!) and purchased a small farm at age fourteen with the money he earned from his paper-delivery route.

4. Harvard Didn't Want Him.
When Warren Buffett applied to Harvard Business School after graduating a year early from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the school rejected him as “too young.” Buffett ended up going to Columbia instead, where he met a life-changing mentor, famed investor Ben Graham.

5. He Pays It Forward.
Warren Buffett has donated most of his fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which serves health and education interests around the world. He is famous for having said that he wanted to teach his children how to fish rather than just giving them the fish.

Dress To Impress: What To Wear For A Job Interview

December 13, 2011 by

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, as the saying goes, and one of the most important first impressions you can make is at a job interview. While you will be judged on a number of factors, you can’t underestimate the message your clothes can send. Here are some vital tips for what to wear to a job interview:

  • Men should always wear a suit to a job interview for any white-collar position. Even if the workplace is somewhat casual, showing up for an interview in a suit communicates that you are serious about the opportunity and want to present a solid, conservative appearance. A neutral tie is also important. Many interviewees neglect their footwear, but it’s an important part of the package. Black or brown dress shoes are inexpensive and will last for some time.
  • Women should also interview in a conservative business ensemble. Either a shirt or slacks are acceptable, depending on which you are more comfortable with. Skirts should be long enough to sit down comfortably. Keep your footwear comfortable and professional as well. Keep jewelry to a minimum – avoid pieces that dangle or clatter together.
  • For both sexes, it’s important to check up on grooming. Men should shave for a job interview unless they have well-groomed facial hair. Women should go light on makeup. Both sexes should abstain from perfume and cologne.

5 Great December Songs

The air may be chilly by November, but all hope of summer is truly lost by the time December rolls around. If anticipating the holidays isn't enough to sustain you, it’s time to start appreciating winter’s true gift: the cold is a great excuse for spending more time snuggled up in your warm bed with your sweetie. Your soundtrack for spooning can be seasonally appropriate but also heart-warming. Depending on your decade of choice, here are some wintery tunes to stave off the cold.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside
Bing Crosby and Doris Day’s playful version of this wintertime classic is a particularly persuasive way to district your honey from leaving the toasty bed.

I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm
Another classic, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Dean Martin have all marveled about using love to weather a storm.

Time of the Season by The Zombies
The Zombies don’t actually specify what the season is, so why not winter? Sounds like a good time for loving.

Wintertime Love by The Doors
In a love song you can waltz to, a surprisingly tender Jim Morrison croons, “winter’s so cold this year, and you are warm”- how sweetly understated.

Warm Love by Van Morrison
While not necessarily set in the winter, this melodic ditty warms your heart with its sweet lyrics and cheerful wind section.

Pasta is a staple of most diets around the world – it’s inexpensive, convenient, and easily stored. But if you’re tired of your usual spaghetti and meatballs, check out these awesome recipes for a little added excitement:

-          A classic Italian pasta dish that is perfect for a warm day is mixing fresh tomatoes, roughly chopped, and fresh basil with a little olive oil. This brings the awesome natural flavors of the vegetables to the fore.

-          To really make a healthy pasta dish that will have people coming back for seconds, cook green beans and asparagus cut into thirds along with zucchini matchsticks and mix with pesto.

-          A great, healthy variant on macaroni and cheese is to use butternut squash as a binder for the mixture, replacing a portion of the cheese. This is an excellent autumn recipe that adds an earthy, deep flavor to your noodles.

-          A classic pasta dish that really makes for a classy meal is to sautee mushrooms with garlic in an alfredo sauce and place over bowtie noodles with sliced steak and parsley.

-          Hand-making pasta is easy in a food processor. Make dough and then roll noodles out by hand, using your forefinger and thumb to flatten. Toss them in a chunky, hand-made sauce for best results.
