The Children’s Museum of Connecticut: Exhibits for Kids

May 2, 2012

Located in West Hartford, the Children’s Museum of Connecticut calls itself “the place where science and nature are fun.” It’s easy to find – just look for the place with Conny the giant sperm whale on the front yard. There are exhibits for everyone. Toddlers will love the Critter Crossing. Go to the Kid’s Corner for interactive fun, and check out all the live animal species at the wildlife sanctuary. The new Dinosaurs—Jurassic Treehouse exhibit features animatronic dinosaur families in a re-created habitat. The museum is a great place for events like birthday parties and field trips. There’s even an overnight program and a summer vacation camp. And don’t miss the Premium Planetarium Show! The Children’s Museum of Connecticut is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First & Last Tavern: Great Casual Dining

April 17, 2012

A family-run Connecticut operation, the First and Last Tavern located across from Goodwin Park in Hartford continues the tradition of serving great Italian dishes in a casual setting. The rumor is that Frank Sinatra used to frequent the place, and the Chairman of the Board knew his food. Grab a beer or glass of wine and ask the helpful wait staff what’s good today. Make sure that you don’t fill up on the delicious home baked bread! The appetizers are tasty; the raw bar is fresh and the entrees always please. You can also go for the great brick oven pizza. Stay for dessert, or go to the bakery for cake, pastries, or a loaf of artisan bread!
