Created in 1993 to house impressive collections of fine and decorative American art, the Sewell C. Biggs Museum houses the only comprehensive collection of American paintings on the Delmarva Peninsula. The museum houses a variety of art forms, from the sculptures of Hiram Powers and the images of Brandywine School Illustrator Frank E. Schoonover, to pieces by early-American cabinet makers and one of the largest collections of regional silver in the country. There are contstantly events taking place at the museum, and exhibitions rotate throughout the year, featuring the work of national and local artists, as well as the talent of young artists in the “Arts ConnectEd” exhibition—just one of the ways the museum supports the public education of art in the community. The Biggs Museum galleries are open to all ages free of charge, and can been seen Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 – 4:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
